If you are reading this blog, you already know the value of exercise.  You know you are supposed to move your body in such a way that you will regret having started the moment that first side ache sets in.  The question becomes, “why am I doing this?”  It’s funny how we will ask ourselves things that we already know the answer to.  The real question you should be asking is how much of this torture should I endure.  You don’t want to push yourself so hard initially so as to deminish the possibility of you putting on those sneakers the next day to do it all over again; and you don’t want to be wasting your time day after day by under exerting yourself.  Many fitness authorities state that you should engage in moderate activity for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.  That that constitutes “moderate activity” is subjective.  For some, it is a walk in the park.  For others, it’s a jog up Cowels Mountain in twenty minutes.  The officail Moving For Wellness stance on how much you should push yourself is that you should work hard enough to elevate your heart rate so that you are aware of it by physical sense.  You should break a sweat and work up a little funk.  This means that if you chose to hammer out your physical activity requirement on your lunch break, you should at least have an extra change of clothes at your desk if not able to shower at work.
The beauty is that you have the freedom to choose what type of activity you will engage in to fulfill your daily requirement.  If you are not a runner, save some money for a bike or just go to the park and kick a soccer ball around.  The bottom line is that you know your body was meant to move.  Do not sqander your blessings.  We were given all the tools we need to move our bodies.  Be greatfull that you can take to the streets/park/trails and enjoy all the natural and artificial beauty that is the outdoors.  Move for health.  Move for joy. Move for wellness.
