A Paradigm Shift

I realized today at work that I have become numb to the large part of their budget some people dedicate to medication. I asked an old lady for $180 for two bottles of pills and she didn’t even blink an eye. Now, this lady did not have diamond rings on or flashy clothes on but she was more than willing to shell out what is probably 30% of her monthly income. This can only happen if that lady made it up in her mind that this was normal and being sick was the default. Seven years working in the pharmacy has almost lead me to believe this myth. I know eating right and moving for wellness will not prevent all disease in everybody but I lament the fact that so many people are at peace with spending so much money on something they have or had the power to change. I often am reminded of a quote from Hippocrates. Right after his famous, “do no harm” line, “let medicine be your food and let food be your medicine”.
